We're looking for volunteers
We're looking for long term General Volunteers to join our team in Calais - we have positions from end of January 2022 but will continue to welcome applications for volunteers over the next few months. Role: Long Term General Volunteer
Location: Calais, France
Commitment: Minimum 2 months (generally 5 volunteering days and 2 days off each week)
Start date: Ongoing
Accommodation: Shared accommodation provided
Reimbursement: Flat rate £200 per month
Holidays/breaks: Every two months
This is a volunteer role and is subject to a volunteer agreement and our code of conduct. There is no contract and no obligation.
Responsibilities

Attend and support regular Info Bus sessions, visiting sites around Calais with other team members to deliver services and distribute cables, plugs and sim cards. Working with other volunteers on stocking the van, setting up charging stations, spending time with the people using our services, providing refreshments, cleaning down after shifts, and other tasks as required.

Follow team protocol to ensure that distributions and the delivery of WiFi, charging and information services are carried out in a safe, orderly and dignified manner at each location, in coordination with the rest of the volunteer team.

Support the team in the maintenance of the equipment (van, car, generator, WiFi system and other items).

Support the Coordination team in different tasks such as ensuring that our New Arrival Guides and Information for displaced people are accurate, accessible and timely, testing phones, and keeping track of stock levels and administrative tasks as appropriate.

Draft information updates and other content for Info Bus to share on social media, following internal social media guidelines.

Taking initiative to scope out needs of community members and feeding this back to the Coordination Team to improve our services and inform partner organisations of specific needs, supporting the team doing referrals to other partner organisations in Calais.

Adhere to volunteer Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies, pro-actively ensuring that the team in the field are safe and creating a safe space for service users.

Ensure any project expenses are approved by the Coordination Team and imputed into our expenses recording system.
Requirements
Essential
-
Criminal record certificate (DBS check or equivalent).

Good verbal and written communication skills in English. French is a plus.

Highly proactive and organised, able to manage and prioritise a busy, high-pressure workload and long working days.
Desirable
-
Experience working in a similar role, in a grassroots charity or NGO or in a similar field (work with refugees, people seeking asylum and/or displaced people).

Clean driving licence.

Knowledge of any of the languages spoken by people in Northern France (Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Tigrinya, Sorani, Oromo, Amharic, German).

Previous experience working with displaced people in Northern France.

Graphic design skills.

Experience in fundraising.
